DENVER, Colo. — The 2012 Colorado State 4-H Shooting Sports Ambassador program is off and running. This year kicked off with a hands-on training held in Denver at the Bass Pro Shops. While at Bass Pro the Ambassadors toured the store, Fine Gun Room, visited with gunsmith, Bart Smith, and learned how S.T.E.M. is found in every day shooting sports with the help of Colorado State University Extension Agents Perry Brewer and Brenda Kwang. Ambassadors also learned how to prepare and deliver speeches about their experience in 4-H shooting sports and drafted their own press releases. They took their public speaking and communication training to the International Sport’s Exposition at the Colorado 4-H Shooting Sports booth and visited with attendees about 4-H programming and the role it has in their daily lives.

This year’s Ambassadors team consists of Brandi Borgan, Montezuma County; Amy and Patrick Telck, Fremont County; Ben Gruber, Delta County; John Holst, Douglas County; Joey Laes, Mesa County; Austin Luker, Moffat County and Liam McGrail, Jefferson County.

The Ambassadors represent the state shooting sports program on the county, district, regional and state level by representing 4-H and specifically 4-H Shooting Sports for public relations purposes at special events; at donor/supporter functions and with the general public, peer groups, 4-H groups, community service groups, schools and media contacts. While serving they enhance their leadership, citizenship and community service experiences.

“I am eager to work with the 2012 Colorado Ambassadors as they began the year. They will be very busy with many activities ranging from visiting with our state legislators, working at our state shoot, speaking at local events and developing their leadership all while serving our communities.

We have a strong variety of members from around our state and I know they will represent the entire 4-H program with dedication and enthusiasm.” Lacey Mann, Colorado State University Extension State Shooting Sports Ambassador Coordinator said.

4-H youth are a living breathing, culture-changing revolution for doing the right thing, breaking through obstacles and pushing our country forward by making a measurable difference right where they live. Thank you to all who sent in applications, they were all very impressive and I am excited to hit the ground running with our new slate of ambassadors.

As you may be aware, there will be a mandatory training January 7-8 in Denver, Colorado. As part of the training, we will be discussing Ambassador expectations, work on public speaking and presentation, team-build and have some fun getting to know one another.

Sunday morning we will wrap up by working at the International Sportsman’s Expo at the Denver Convention Center at the CSU Shooting Sports Booth. Here we will put our public speaking skills to work by telling the thousands of people attending the expo why Colorado 4-H Shooting Sports is the best bang for your buck and time!

I’m excited to work with all of you. We have three returning Ambassadors, Joey, Austin and Liam. This is a wonderful opportunity for these members to represent the entire state of Colorado and the 4-H Shooting Sports program.

Let me know if our 4-H Shooting Sports Ambassadors can help you at your local, area or regional event.
